After more than 20 years in their Saint Louis home, this couple knew it was time for a change. Their two-story house had served their family well—but as life evolved, their home needed to evolve too. The main floor hadn’t been updated in years, the primary suite wasn’t working as well as it could, and the flow from their back entry (where they park) into the heart of the home needed serious improvement.

Bringing Their Vision to Life, Down to the Last Detail with the Design-Build Method
From the very beginning, this project called for careful planning. Our team at Lakeside Renovation & Design worked closely with the homeowners to fine-tune their architect’s plans, offering our input on design, layout, and functionality.
One major change? Eliminating a large HVAC soffit that would have disrupted the kitchen cabinetry. We worked with our mechanical team to reroute it and create a cleaner, more polished look. When a hidden structural beam popped up near the French doors, we turned it into a recessed nook—transforming a challenge into a charming design feature. And when sagging floor joists in the existing structure threatened future finish quality, we corrected it with a new steel beam and reinforcement.

One of the standout features of this renovation was the new two-story addition (plus basement). With matching brickwork and James Hardie® siding, the addition blends perfectly with the original home—no awkward transitions or patchwork appearances. Even the hardwood flooring flows seamlessly from the old into the new.
Inside, we partnered closely with the homeowners to choose finishes that reflect their vibrant design aesthetic. From tile selections to cabinetry to color palettes, every detail was chosen with intention. Our team provided both physical samples and 3D renderings to ensure each element aligned with the couple’s unique style. Even when surprises popped up outside the project scope, our team showed up. When a sewer line blockage (unrelated to our work) caused basement flooding, our crew arrived first thing in the morning with wet vacs in hand—cleaning up and minimizing damage. The homeowners later asked us to fully address the issue through a change order.
Another example? A planned window removal affected the tile layout in a bathroom. Instead of letting the design suffer, our tile installers and designers came together to create a new layout using pencil tile—and it turned out beautifully.
