Lakeside Renovation & Design recently completed a stunning renovation of a two-story Federal-style home in St. Louis, MO. The homeowners wanted to bring their residence up to modern standards while preserving its timeless charm. They faced issues ranging from rotting windows and siding to a lack of natural light in their bedroom, making their living spaces feel outdated and uninviting.

The homeowners wanted to create a more open, light-filled bedroom and address an impractical layout where five sets of French doors led to the same outdoor area, with three opening into the same room. One of the key transformations included converting three of those French door openings into windows, improving the flow and practicality of the space. To brighten up the bedroom, we enlarged the windows, filling the room with natural light.
Throughout the project, we remained focused on subtle, elegant details, such as using two different widths of James Hardie siding to enhance the original structure and adding copper flashing for a refined touch.
We provided a range of services to update the home, including carpentry work to adjust door and window openings, interior trim, drywall, and painting on the entire first floor. We installed new Marvin Infinity windows, a ProVia Signet entry door, custom copper gutters and flashing, and Atlantic louvered shutters.
In addition, we gave the front porch a facelift with a stained ceiling, adding warmth and sophistication. Every detail was carefully executed, and the project even included managing unexpected challenges, such as rot in the underlayment, which was handled seamlessly by Lakeside’s expert carpenters.
